Week one of the New Year’s Nine is complete and I’ve certainly learned a lot so far.  On the positive side, not a day has gone by where I have not made my goal of eating nine servings of fruits and veggies.  Add in the flax seed consumption and cutting out the soda—and wow, I’m feeling pretty darn good.

On the not as positive side, I’ve found that I’m going to have to start tracking my eating better and really pay attention to portion sizes.  Although I do need to lose some weight, the main goal of this is to be healthier overall.  I have noticed I’m not dropping any weight—which is kind of a surprise.  What is happening is that I’m eating other things in addition to the fruits and veggies.  I know those calories are adding up.  Plus, I’m “chasing down” the fruits and veggies with a few sauces and things like whipped cream (on my nightly bowl of peaches).    And, then there is the fact that I’m not getting in my servings as early as needed, so I’m often cramming down carrots or green beans at 11 pm.  That’s too late to be eating.

So, starting tomorrow, I’m going to enter my consumption into an online tracking program called Spark People.  It can be found at www.sparkpeople.com and is free.  I’ve used it before and it is fabulous.  What will be fun is to read the nutritional anaylsis, which I’ve never paid attention to—always been focused on total calories.

I think the results are going to freak me out in terms of calories and I know the writing is on the wall related to my morning Cocoa Puffs.  But, a gals gotta do what a gals gotta do.  I’m not going to show up Subway Jared if I end up packing on the pounds with this new lifestyle.

So, here’s to less –that in the end will be more!!!
